Since my last update I've been racing on the World Cup Tour around Italy and Austria in Slalom, GS and Combined races. My form has been good in Slalom and I'm continuing to improve in GS and Combined. To earn my start place in the World Cup Slalom I had to do qualifying in training against my brother Alain which was really tough for me being Alain's biggest fan!
However, I came out on top this time and managed to win the spot by a tiny margin. In Alta Badia I also competed in the GS which was lots of fun. The hill is rated as one of the toughest there is! Things were looking great but, unfortunately, I caught my hand in the snow during my final warm up run and had a fair amount of pain. After the race we got it x-rayed and found that I had fractured my thumb and had to have my hand put in a cast. This set me back a little but I managed to make some modifications to my pole so I could hold it.
The next days in the Slalom I had to get used to skiing with the cast which wasn’t too bad but the only problems I found was pushing from the start. However, I skied a good race eventually finishing 32nd just missing the top 30 cut, one of only a few guy who were getting anywhere near the top 30 from higher start numbers.
I have to go for some fitness now so I'll write again soon.
